I really enjoyed reading this, then watching the movie again to see how they compared. The book is very, very intense and the author did a great job of making you want to keep flipping the pages!

This was a great book. It hooked me good and I could not put it down. It has been a while since I felt that way about any book. I can always find something to be critical about, and in this case, it would have been the desire for the author to expand or more fully resolve some more plot events. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book.
Horrifically Beautiful

I know it’s odd to call a horror novel beautiful and lovely, but it’s originates with the strength of the main character and the intensity of the plot. I saw the movie, but as usual, the book delves so much farther into the devastating situation Malorie endures.
Watch the movie 🤩

I have not read the book but the movie is a big fat four star loved it

This is definitely worth the read. An interesting take on the apocalyptic survival genre. Avoid the sequel “Malorie” though, as this book stands better on its own.
As if blind people didn’t exist?

The premise was hard to embrace. This book ignores that blind people live out full lives, at least until the end of the story. The entities don’t really present a danger unless viewed (though in the movie they’re more menacing) so it was a challenge to buy into the threat. Also, the main character’s relationship with her children bordered on abusive. She didn’t even name them until the end. It had a similar feel to “A Quiet Place”, which was also riddled with big plot holes, by with sight limited rather than sound. Oh, yeah, and both miraculously had electrical power, which was weakly explained.

Ok I watched the movie didn’t read the book but the movie was good.Shut up stupid B****es that thought this was boring or gave it 1 star maybe no one likes u
The only good thing here is the general premise
h_sharp

Interesting premise and a few tense moments of the "unknown terror", but overall poor execution. Little-to-no character development, uneventful plot, and VERY basic prose. Prepare for a lot of "and the she did this. And then she did that." sentences that are almost always somehow the same length and amount of syllables. The lack of rhythm in the writing makes it frankly tough to endure. Add onto that that the plot isn’t worth enduring, and you’ve got yourself a book that probably isn’t worth your time.

🛑🛑BEYOND THERE BE SPOILERS🛑🛑
This iBook has sat in my library, untouched, since the Netflix movie came out. It was featured in one of iBook’s huge sales, so I was, like, why not. I finally read it, and I’m so impressed, I’m writing a review. Best book I’ve read in awhile. Dialogue flows naturally, the author brings “the roommates” to life effortlessly, and there was even a brief, albeit real love between two characters which would have been so beautiful. Many books boast of unseen plot twists, but this one actually has one!! I absolutely loved that the creatures didn’t hurt/kill/maim/eat people, but caused (probably unknowingly) utter insanity. It’s unique. I was expecting the creature Malorie came face-to-face with to drag her out of the boat & rip off her head or something, but it didn’t even persist in taking off her blindfold after she protested. Are these creatures gentle? Intelligent? Humanoid? Are they horrified at the effect they have on other intelligent life? If a book makes me think or has a great ending, it’s an excellent book, in my opinion. Bird Box accomplishes both.
What a thrill ride!

This book was so unsatisfying. It made no sense and offered no real solution. What were the creatures? Why were the mentally ill unaffected (other than playing into the harmful trope that the mentally ill and evil and sinister by nature)? Why were animals affected at a lesser rate? Why did it seem like there was nothing ever at stake? For a post apocalyptic story, it was painfully boring. And, it seemed that way because the author was unable to create a realistic world or too lazy to do so. Just watch the movie (which I still did not like) but at least there urgency was established into the storyline
Amazing!!!!

To be honest I made it to the half way mark and decided to quit. I saw the movie and heard how different the book was so I decided to read it.
I don’t care about the characters, the dialog between them is hollow and so is the storyline.
Very disappointed

I chose to read the book first so I can understand the Netflix movie better. The book is engaging and the characters draw you into the story. However, the switches between timelines can be confusing and throw off the pace of the story. In addition, the book’s ending lacked a satisfactory conclusion which is the main reason for the three-star rating.

I wanted to read the book after watching the movie on Netflix so I want to head and purchased it. I was hoping for a little expansion of the universe, more on the mythos of the creatures and further development of the characters but the book was pretty straightforward and it left me wanting more. There were too many missed opportunities throughout the book for the author to bring you further into the world he crafted but he never did. Overall it was a fine book but I wished there was more detail to it.

The movie on Netflix is nothing compared to the book. At all. It’s like they took the premise and names of characters and that was it. Definitely worth the time reading! I couldn’t put Bird Box down! Looking into other works by this author. Recommend reading this before watching what they call Bird Box on Netflix. Now the movie is just a disappointment.

I believe Bird Box, although an enjoyable read, could have been better, there are quite a few good scenes and scenarios in the book that are written with great tension, unfortunately there’s a lot of Scenes and Scenarios lacking enough description and details leaving the reader to feel like it was just splotched in.

I don’t plan to watch the movie but the premise seemed intriguing enough to spend $3 on the book. It was a page turner that I read in 2 sittings. I liked how tense the book felt in spots, it got my heart going a few times for sure!

Could not put this book down and that's a book I've been looking for. But can we please get a sequel? After reading this I am left feeling like I want to know what's next. I want the characters to find a way to get more information and to find a way around this or something. And I'm also left feeling like i just watched a horror movie. Haven't seen the movie version yet but you know that feeling like you just want to pull your curtains closed and lock the doors and just feel totally creeped out. So despite the unanswered questions it's a pretty good book in my opinion when I'm sucked in, can't put it down and you go through the emotions with the characters.
“The Mist” fans rejoice, another story hinging on the terror of the unseen
