Beautifully written, brutally long.

I’m a fan of Greg’s, for sure, and I love the overall story, but it’s so long I was forgetting details and characters. I will read Mississippi Blood because I’m bought in, but I’ll be glad to get to Greg’s other works.

I think the first half of the book is slow.
T
I think it could be edited down without lost of story. Also there are to o many charters. Could not follow some times and had to repeat. I read about 15 online books a year and love to read.

This is one of the best novels I have ever read. Iles’ uses a magnificent historical mystery on which to form a realistic and suspenseful fiction with characters of credibility, strengths and weaknesses that keep you wanting to read more, yet fearing what might happen. Truth and fiction collide with clarity of the never ending racism that still grips our nation.

I really enjoy Mr Iles writing and have read many of his books. I find his plots and characters very inciting. However I found this book was rather hard to follow because of the Kennedy conspiracy sub-plot. I found it just confused the main point that started in “Natchez Burning”. It got to the that I just began flipping past the Kennedy rehashing that took up so many pages.

The basic story is interesting. The book is never ending. Twice as long as it needs to be.
Long winded...

I agree with the other readers who said this book was long winded. Thats exactly it. Too wordy, long, and at times it became boring. Love the plot, but the book(s) could have been way shorter and moved along much faster. I don’t think I’ve ever said this about a book before, but here it is; I could not stand Caitlyns character and nearly every single thing she did made absolutely no sense. Every action was just plain stupid to the point of irritation. See ya, Caitlyn!

Excellent series, but I want the story to continue! Is another book in this series planned?
Good but long

This is the sequel to Natchez Burning, and picks up where that left off. It follows the same characters for several more days, and based on the ending, more is to come.
It’s good, exciting, but a bit overwritten. Over these 2 books, about 1600 pages in the print form, you certainly get to know the characters, and get a sense of place and time. It could have been shortened with no loss in story or atmosphere. Nevertheless, then the next Greg Iles comes out I will buy it on the first day.

Ridiculously long, way over the top. Could have been half the amount of pages. Skip it if you didn't read the first book. Personally I am not reading the next one. Totally frustrated with this author.
Another hit!

Greg Isles continues his award winning tale of Penn Cage and Natchez, Mississippi. Another story I couldn't put down but hated to see end. And now we wait for the next part.....Snake's revenge and Tom Cage's story.

Very disappointing. It seems so many authors whose early works I enjoy (e.g. Stuart Woods, John Grishman) in their later books begin to “mail it in.” The first 100 pages of the Bone Tree were a rehash. The book then disintegrated into a disjointed and rambling narrative before collapsing into an unsatisfying ending that was clealry calulated only to set up the next in the series.
Stupendously boring

Jesus Greg...really! I've read every one of this guys books and always enjoyed them but the second one in this series still leaves us hanging!
Long winded, manipulative and just excessive. Can't this guy just tell a story without dragging it out over three (or maybe MORE for Gods sake) books of over 1000 pages each? This crap makes me want to just give up on this author...what in the hell is he thinking. Move on Greg.
