Joe Pickett old and best friend Nate Romanowski is off the grid, lying low while the FBI search for him. Then Nate is contacted by two FBI agents who propose a deal that would involve his freedom from prosecution, but at a heavy cost. Unfortunately both of these agents have their own agenda. They need Nate to assess a potential terrorist threat in Wyomings Red Desert.Joe is on a mission for the governor to investigate a rash of crimes and other illegal activities which will result in both Joe and Nate teaming up to fight terroorists who are in possession of a very powerful EMP devise that could literally spell the collapse and downfall of America. Another excellent read in this series!! My highest recommendation!!

This one was ok.. not the best CJ book, I love the series but the last two haven’t been my favorite personally. Can’t wait to read the next one!!!

I am a diehard C.J. Box fan & really love the character Nate-but this time I think the story was a bit hard to swallow. Looking forward to the next book with my fingers crossed that Box comes back to earth with his plot lines (and a little more to the center line). All in all not a bad read.

Enjoyed the story except for the author's anti-government agenda. We get the picture, Mr. Box...the government is evil and state and federal employees (with sole exception being Pickett) are lazy and incompetent. Move on to something new.

A good suspense novel at some point must be at least slightly believable. This one is so full of blatantly ridiculous coincidences and incredulous plot turns that it should be classified a fantasy. That plus the fact that there is an extreme right wing anti federal government slant that permeates and poisons the entire story motivated me to write my first book review ever. Unless you are one of the moronic militia men who occupied the federal property in Utah you will not enjoy this book.

The constant psychic dream themes are becoming increasingly hokey, and the use of unrealistic coincidences in the narrative seems intellectually lazy. These both detract from an otherwise enjoyable writing style.
